LEARN Regional Educational
Service Center is pleased to announce, on behalf of the LEARN Governing
Board, the appointment of Dr. Susan C. Iwanicki as the new Principal of
the Regional Multicultural Magnet School (RMMS).
Dr. Iwanicki
holds Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from the University of
Connecticut. She also holds an Ed.D. Degree from Central Connecticut
State University and has spent the past four years as Principal of
Sliney Elementary School in Branford. Previously, she served as the
Supervisor of Elementary Education for the Bristol, Connecticut Public
Schools. Dr. Iwanicki taught internationally and has presented both
regionally and nationally on literacy instruction, multicultural
education, and strategies that support English language learners.
A
bilingual educator, Dr. Iwanicki has used her passion for languages and
her work in diverse cultural settings to build communication between
groups in school communities and to teach children the importance of
learning, respecting, and acquiring knowledge that will help them be
successful in life. Her colleagues and supervisors portray her as a
leader who combines deep instructional knowledge with a passion for
multicultural education. Furthermore, they uniformly describe her as
kind, loving, and fun, with the ability to develop strong relationships
with children, families, and teachers.
Dr. Eileen S. Howley, the
Executive Director of LEARN noted, “The RMMS community built a community
profile as they began the search for the next principal. Dr. Iwanicki
fits that profile as closely as any one person can. We are fortunate to
have her join LEARN and to lead the Regional Multicultural Magnet
School. We are grateful to the many teachers, parents, and staff who
participated in the interview committees and who helped to guide our
selection process.”
Dr. Iwanicki began her new role on July 1, 2015.
